It takes a big ol' kind world
In which I thank fellow writers and podcasters for their generosity in supporting TTE's Season 3 launch
My dear readers, I have been writing blog posts about teaching (and other things) for well on 13 years. For most of that time, I worked alone, writing stuff and sending it out without any expectation of acknowledgment or appreciation. In fact, I think that expectation — that I was alone, that no one was looking at and therefore judging me — was crucial to my being brave enough to publish any thoughts at all.
Those times have changed.
Not because I’ve suddenly grown super confident. I haven’t. I worry all the time about daring to speak my mind and taking up space in my own way.
No, what has changed is the size of my world.
It turns out that the online world of bloggers and podcasters is a really kind world. Where people are excited about others’ ideas and efforts. Where people share their time and advice and maintain a connection even when it’s as seemingly tenuous as a fading sound wave.
I’d like to thank a number of these people and organizations, and, in the spirit of this hospitable online world, encourage you to check out their work:
A UK publication that recommends and writes about podcasts and the podcast industry.
A website that invites people to curate a list of 5 podcasts on a particular theme — like, for example, teaching.
A publication that amplifies new and outstanding podcasts through their newsletter and their social media: Instagram and Threads.
A place to find thoughtful reviews of indie podcasts by
. Sponsor of the Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards, for which TTE was nominated this year!A newsletter that supports and promotes podcasting: from new show announcements to industry news.
A magazine that features — you guessed it — women podcasters. Sponsor of the Women Who Podcast awards, which TTE won this year in the Thought-Provoking category.
A funny podcast about “the systematic murder of our bank accounts.” Who doesn’t want to get to the bottom of that mystery? They run a a weekly-ish companion series to the podcast that asks friends and listeners one question: How are you getting by? In one episode, they ask a middle school teacher how she gets by.
And, finally, I thank with full heart the two people who have guided me into this world with such patience and expertise: Jullian Androkae, my producer, and Andreea Coscai, my master of audience development. These two make up their own company, PodVision, which can help you create and promote your own podcast! Jullian and Andreea are the epitome of the kindness I have found in the podcasting world.
And I cannot thank enough the people and publications that believed in me and TTE this year. May you all thrive!
