"It's amazing! I AM AMAZED!!"
In which I celebrate a teeny bit
I love my brother Thom. I love my brother Peter, too, but Thom has a band. Peter doesn’t. Peter has good taste in wine, but that’s different.
Thom’s band is one of my favorites. It’s called Jabbering Trout. I have been a super-fan since its founding some 30 years ago.
A few weekends ago, Thom and his wife Felicia came to our home to do a house concert for many of our friends. Here’s what it looked like:

That’s Thom in the middle with the guitar. That’s me standing on the left. That’s my husband on the right in the black T-shirt and my daughter next to him. Those are some of our dear friends.
Thom played tons of tunes while people listened and danced. He started with a song, Tumble On, which I sang to my daughter whenever she was fussing — and it calmed her down every time. He played another favorite, Mermaid Song. He played the song he wrote for Brad’s and my wedding. And he ended with probably my favorite song of all time, the music that I use in the intro and outro to my podcast, a song called Lifetime.
The title of this post is lyrics from that song. The refrain goes like this:
It’s all true.
It’s all verified.
It’s amazing: We’re alive.
Sensations, they would never lie.
It’s amazing! I AM AMAZED!!
I’m sharing this because you, my readers and listeners, were a tacit part of this celebration of family, life, and love that my brother’s music embodies and that you hear every time you listen to one of my podcast episodes. In these times when it’s easy to feel as though we’re falling apart, it’s nice to come together — ooh! Here’s a great (and timely) song by Thom called Everybody Stand Together! — and remember that, first, sensations? They would never lie. And, second, it’s amazing that we are alive.
